Why I picked it
I was scrolling through Game Pass without a particular game in mind. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stood out because something about its imagery and atmosphere reminded me a little of BioShock. I did not know much about the game beyond that, so I decided to start it without digging too deeply into reviews, guides, or spoilers first.
The opening is mostly story
This first video is heavy on cutscenes and game dialogue because the opening spends a lot of time establishing the world, the characters, and what the expedition actually means. It is less about showing off a bunch of combat and more about letting the game set up its story.
That worked for me. The buildup was interesting enough that I kept wanting to see where it was going instead of feeling like I was waiting for the game to start.
Then it caught me completely off guard
There is one moment in this opening section that genuinely shocked me. I am leaving the details in the video instead of spelling them out here, because the surprise is a big part of why the opening landed as well as it did for me.
By the end of the session, I had gone from casually trying something on Game Pass to wanting to continue the story. That is usually the best sign that a first playthrough worked.
More Expedition 33 is coming
I enjoyed the setup enough that I am continuing the game, so this will not be a one-off KAPPIN PLAYS video. Future videos will follow the playthrough as I get farther into Expedition 33 and actually start learning more about its combat, systems, characters, and world.
